UAE'S longest road in the world, Sheikh Khalifa road


(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi General Services (Musanada) has built Dhs5.3 billion road, under the Department of Transport supervision, which will be named after President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in recognition and appreciation of his role in leading the march of giving until the UAE became one of the pioneering countries worldwide, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region said.

Being one of the most important strategic transport projects in Abu Dhabi, The 327-km long road will contribute to achieving the objectives of Abu Dhabi plan towards enhancing the emirate's infrastructure, backing its economic development and making a quantum leap in the modern network of roads, he added.

The development work covered 246 kms from Al Mafraq to the international borders with Saudi Arabia in Al Ghuwaifat.

The road has entered the Guinness World Records as the longest international road of 327 kms using LED lamps, considering that some 21,154 were installed on 8,747 lampposts and this would help decrease energy consumption by at least 60 per cent.
