Last November, a 48-year-old woman died after falling off Suicide Cliff, and a 69-year-old experienced male hiker fell to his death while trekking on one of Hong Kong's most difficult trails – Kau Nga Ling or "Dog's Teeth Range" south of Lantau Peak.

In Hong Kong, 80 hiking trails with a total length of about 500 kilometers are under the management and maintenance of the AFCD within country parks and special areas.

However, there are a number of other trails that are not under the AFCD's management. The government says it does not keep information on all these trails and advises hikers not to explore new routes on their own or hike on unmaintained paths.
