2 women gunned down in Faryab probe launched


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Two women have been killed by unidentified gunmen in Maimana, the capital of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Sunday.

Provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yourish told Pajhwok Afghan News Shah Jahan, 40, and her 19-year-old daughter-in- law were killed in their residence in the fifth police district late on Saturday night.

He said Jahan was a senior official at the Ministry of Education. The motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained, he said, adding her murder was under investigation.

No one has taken the responsibility for the killings so far. Hafeezullah Fitrat, the human rights department head, said it was the ninth incident of violence against women in the past three weeks.
