Casualties as violence escalates in various parts


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): One policeman was killed and three police and as many Taliban militants were wounded in separate incidents of violence, officials said on Sunday.

The three Taliban were wounded when a bomb they were shifting from one place to another went off in Baland Gharmu locality of the Sayyad district in northern Sar-i-Pul province on Sunday morning, the district chief, Hayatullah Hayat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In the same area, an Afghan local police (ALP) member was shot dead after hit by bullets fired from a long distance.

Elsewhere in northwestern Farah province, Taliban militants attacked security check-posts near Haider Qala village around the provincial city.

Mohammad Javid, a resident of the village, confirmed the attack late on Saturday night and said after exchanging fire with the assailants for a few hours, the security forces left the posts.

According to his information, three police were wounded in the clash. The Taliban have not yet commented about these incidents.

Meanwhile, Taliban militants and security forces clashed in Godai Qala area, eight km north of Maimana, with both sides claiming to have inflicted casualties on the other.

The clash erupted after the insurgents attacked security posts in the area last night, said Col. Ahmad Wais Alamdar, the commander of the 1st battalion of border police.

He said the Taliban was put off stiff resistance by security forces, killing three attackers and wounding nearly a dozen more.

He said v four security forces suffered wounds in the battle and one of them was in critical condition.

However, Makhdom Habib Rahman, Taliban€™s shadow district chief for Pashtunkot district, claimed security forces sustained heavy casualties in the clash in Godai Qala area. He said the fighters used leaser weapons against the security forces.

An Afghan National Armey (ANA) soldier was shot dead in Tapa-Qashlaq locality of Khwja-Subzposh district by militants who used leaser weapons.
