UAE- UNCHR honours Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation

DUBAI, 17th January, 2018 (WAM) -- Ibrahim Bumelha, Advisor to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, stressed that the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which reflect the importance of humanitarian action and rescuing people affected by natural disasters in friendly countries, is a road map for the foundation to achieve its charitable and humanitarian goals and promote its leading regional and international stature in humanitarian and charitable action.

He stressed that the foundation, as part of its charitable and humanitarian policy, is establishing partnerships with many international organisations to provide various types of assistance, which is the reason for the wide recognition and appreciation of it humanitarian activities by international organisations.

Bumelha made this statement after the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, honoured and praised the foundation, in recognition of the cash assistance to its programme for internally displaced people in Iraq, which aims to fulfil the basic needs of around 207 families returning to Mosul.

Saleh Zaher, Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, yesterday received, at the its headquarters, a delegation from the UNHCR, which was led by Khalid Khalifa, Regional Representative of the UNHCR in the Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, Countries, and included Ayat Al Duwairi, Private Sector Partnerships Officer. The delegation presented a memorial shield and an appreciation certificate from the UNHCR to the foundation, for funding its cash assistance programme.

The meeting was also attended by Saleh Ali, Director of the External Action Department, and Mohammed Al Hammadi, Foreign Aid and Rescue Officer at the Foundation.

Khalifa stated that the Foundation's support for the UNHCR's programme in Iraq has had a considerable effect on its success, helped to restore the security and stability of displaced families in Mosul, and proved the importance of joint action.

He added that the United Nations, UN, would like to thank the foundation for its efforts to implement rescue and reconstruction projects in many parts of the world.

Khalifa also praised the UAE's assistance, which has eased the suffering of vulnerable people around the world. He also noted that the UAE is among the largest donors and supporters of the UNHCR, which operates in 133 countries.
