US condemns bomb attack in Baghdad
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Jan 16 (KUNA) - The US condemned, in the strongest possible terms, Monday's "barbaric" bomb attack at Tayran Square in Baghdad that reportedly killed 38 people.
"The brutal attacks on innocent civilians demonstrates once again the savagery of the enemy that we face there," State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert to reporters Tuesday.
"We want to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victims and hope for a speedy recovery of those wounded," she said.
"Those attacks are an awful reminder that despite having liberated Iraqi territory from (the so-called Islamic State (IS)), terrorism remains a threat there. "The US government reaffirms its commitment to support the government and the people of Iraq in their efforts to ensure an enduring defeat of (IS) and also its ideology," Nauert added. (end) ak.gb
