(MENAFN) Police have detained a Californian pair who imprisoned their thirteen children with few of them "shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks".
The couple who were identified as David Allen Turpin aged 57 and Louise Anna Turpin aged 49 are currently under custody on torture and child endangerment charges.
The children aged 2-29 were held captive in their home in Perris until one of them, a female aged 17, notified the police of their condition.
The Riverside Sheriff's Department stated that the victim was able to run off and make an emergency call through a cell phone she spotted inside the property.
