Kuwait- Al Jubeir, Reynders discuss ties, regional issues


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir met Belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders in Brussels Tuesday and discussed bilateral relations as well as regional developments including Syria, Yemen, Iran's nuclear deal.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Reynders said Saudi-Belgian ties are making progress.

He said that Belgium is against any re-negotiation of the Iran nuclear deal . Reynders said they also discussed matters related to the Islamic Centre in Brussels, which is currently run by the Makkah-based World Muslim League and agreed that it should be managed by the local Muslim community of Belgium.

He has added that that it is now the task for the Belgian interior ministry to manage that transition.

On his part, Al Jubeir said the Iranian-backed Houthis are responsible for the catastrophic situation in Yemen, noting that they have fired 88 ballistic missiles, supplied by Iran, against Saudi Arabia.

He also called for international sanctions on Iran for violating international law by supplying weapons to the Houthis and for supporting terrorism.

Later, Al Jubeir met President of the Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne and members of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee. (end) nk.rk
