Afghanistan- Strikers sign Afghan spinner for BBL
An 18-year-old legspinner will become the first Afghan to play in Australia's Big Bash League.
Rashid Khan has been lured by the Adelaide Strikers after being among the most-successful bowlers in this year's Indian Premier League.
"It is a huge honour to be a part of such a great tournament and even more of an honour to be the first Afghanistan player to participate on the BBL stage," Rashid said on Thursday in a statement.
Strikers coach Jason Gillespie described the signing as a "major coup" for his team.
"Rashid has set the world alight in T20 cricket … he has some great variations, can bowl stump-to-stump and can be very hard to pick," Gillespie said in a statement.
In Rashid's first IPL season with David Warner's Sunrisers, he took 17 wickets at 21.05 with an economy rate of 6.62, leading Warner to describe him as "a superstar in the making".
