Qatar, Italy sign MoU on maritime ties

Rome: Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti yesterday held talks with Italian Minister of Infrastructures and Transport Graziano Delrio.
The two officials discussed cooperation between the two friendly countries in the fields of marine transport, ports, aviation and railroads and means of enhancing them, in addition to potential investment opportunities in both countries in transport and communications.
They also discussed a number of matters of common interest.
The two ministers witnessed the signing of an MoU between the Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) and Italian Ports Association (ASSOPORTI), aiming for effective cooperation in maritime works sector, ports and operations management, training programs for ports officers and exchange of ideas and best practices on port improvements and productivity. The MoU was signed by Mwani Qatar CEO Captain Abdullah Al Khanji and ASSOPORTI Secretary-General Franco Mariani.
Minister of Transport and Communications also held talks with Italian Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda. The two officials discussed aspects of cooperation between the two friendly countries in the fields of communications, smart cities, e-commerce and cybersecurity. Carlo Calenda is in charge of the communications sector in Italy.
They also agreed to prepare two memos of understanding in the fields of smart cities and cyber security. They discussed the potential investment opportunities in the field of communications, and a number of matters of common interest.
Both meetings were attended by Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Italy.
