Israel closes Gaza's only commercial crossing


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Gaza, Jan. 14 (Petra) – Israeli occupation authorities early Sunday announced the closure of the commercial crossing of Karem Abu Salem, southern the Gaza strip, until further notice, according to an Israeli official.

Yoav Mordechai ,The coordinator of the Israeli's government activities in the West Bank, claimed in a statement that the shutdown of the crossing was a security measure, holding Hamas accountable to any consequences of the decision.

The move comes after Israel shelled a target eastern of Rafah city, with two missiles near the crossing.

The commercial crossing is considered the only way through which commodities enter the Gaza strip. Israel closes the crossing on Fridays and Saturdays every week, in addition to Jewish holydays.
