DOHA: Chairman of General Authority of Customs, Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal honoured two officials of Customs Department at Hamad International Airport for seizing 7.25kg of cocaine.
Al Jamal also thanked the employees of the Hamad Customs Department at Hamad International Airport for their outstanding efforts and dedication to work, which enabled them to make this big seizure and prevent its entry into the country.
He pointed out that the successes achieved by customs are because of the wise leadership and vision and the great support of the state to upgrade customs system in a bid to provide excellent services.
He added that Customs will witness significant developments at all levels as part of its efforts to protect the security of the Qatari society and the national economy to achieve the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The smuggling bid was foiled by the customs inspectors of Hamad International Airport (Foreign Affairs Department) by suspecting the bag of one of the passengers arriving on a direct flight from Latin America. The bag was transferred to next inspector for manual inspection. The suspected bag was containing clothes.
While examining the bag, it came to light that there was a difference in the weight between top and bottom of the bag. The inspector cut the bottom of bag they found a black bag hidden in a secret way. When the bag was opened, he found the cocaine wrapped with a brown plastic sticker.
When the second bag of the same traveller came through the same suspected way, it was opened and taken out the clothes, then the inspectors cut the bottom of the bag and took out the drug hidden same way of first bag. Both bags contained a total of 7.25kg of cocaine.
It is worth mentioning that the General Authority of Customs is going hard to prevent the entry of narcotics and prohibited substances by providing all its air, land and sea ports with the latest advanced screening devices that can screen the components inside the bag.
The staff is also trained to use these devices and utilize their modern capabilities in the supervision of everything that enters the country.
