UAE- Weekend traffic snarls in RAK to ease soon

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Department of Public Works in Ras Al Khaimah has started developing a number of roundabouts and intersections, mainly on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road, to curb traffic snarls, reported during the weekends.

Ahmed Al Hammadi, director-general of the Department of Public Works, RAK, said they have finished the installation of a new modern irrigation system by 60 per cent. "The new irrigation system will be used to water green areas on the roundabouts and intersections. The irritation systems on the roads have also been completed by 70 per cent. This will help save 60 per cent of the water needed for irrigation purposes."

Al Hammadi said the development process of the major roundabouts of the emirate shall continue further. "More roads in the emirate will be redesigned and turned greener. We have already finished the development of some roundabouts, spanning Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road that connects the RAK city with the Jazirat Al Hamra area. The department has also widened the Wakalat and Old Ittihad roads, and added a fourth lane in each direction."
