770 people arrested in Tunisia

(MENAFN)People in Tunisia took to the streets after government's announcement of this year's budget, and this led to a week of protests.

770 people and more have been arrested in the protests against government's policy of raising taxes and prices of basic goods.

"We're concerned about the high number of arrests, some 778 people we understand have now been arrested since Monday, and around a third of those arrested were between the ages of 15 and 20 so very young," Rupert Colville, a spokesman for the UN human rights office, told reporters in Geneva.
