Russian troops kill militants attacked hmeimim base in Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Jan 12 (KUNA) -- Russian troops on Friday killed militants who bombarded Russia's hmeimim airbase in western Syria on December 31, Russian defense Ministry said in a statement.
Russia's military command in Syria has carried out a special operation aimed to kill an armed group, which attacked the airbase with mortar shells on December 31, the statement added.
It referred to the participation of Russia's intelligence on different levels in the operation in which all militants were killed.
It pointed out that the intelligence also found a location in Idlib province where the militants assembled and stored unmanned aerial vehicles.
Earlier, the ministry said that two Russian military personnel were killed when the armed group bombarded the airbase with mortar shells.
The troops foiled attacks on Russia's hmeimim and Tartus airbases in Syria on Saturday, according to the statement. (end) as.hm
