(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TEHRAN, Jan 12 (KUNA) -- The ground forces of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) seized a consignment of explosives, explosive belts and communications equipment in Saravan county, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, southeast Iran.

"A terrorist group tried to smuggle the consignment into Iran in a bid to carry out sabotage activities, create insecurity and incite unrest in the country," the IRGC said in a statement carried by IRNA, but did not specify the contents.

"IRGC together with police forces is always ready to monitor all suspicious moves along borderlines and foil enemies' terrorist plots," according to the statement.

The Iranian security services have been alert in the recent months for possible activities particularly in the border areas. (end) fz.gb
