Pakistan- Senate committee on SAFRON seeks details of NGOs working in FATA


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) has sought details of all the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in FATA.

Senator Saleh Shah said during the committee meeting on Wednesday that despite clear directives, many NGOs in FATA are appointing non-local people on jobs due to which the people of the tribal areas fell deprived. Other members of the committee also expressed concern over this matter and directed the concerned departments to submit details of workers of all NGOs working in the tribal areas.

The meeting also discussed employment conditions of the Levies personnel in FATA. The committee was told that difficulties were being faced in implementation of three laws in this regard.

The committee chairman Senator Hilalur Rehman formed a sub-committee to monitor the issues of Levies personnel and appointment of non-locals in the FATA NGOs. Senator Saleh Shah will head this sub-committee, while two more senators from FATA will also be included in it.

The issue of poor condition of three governor model schools in South Waziristan Agency also came under discussion during the meeting. The committee was told that not even a single meeting of board of governors of these schools has taken place for the last 10 years. The FATA additional chief secretary also admitted poor condition of these schools and sought few days' time to improve the situation.
