Qatar- Darfur Refugee Football team meets with Save the Dream officials

Doha: The Darfur Refugee Football team visited the headquarters of the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) recently to meet with senior officials and international experts from Save the Dream.

Save the Dream is a global non-profit movement that aims to promote and protect sport values in young people around the world.

Comprising of players and officials from different tribes and camps from across Sudan, the Darfur Refugee Football team was formed to provide opportunities to support and empower displaced youth in the country, as well as using sport as a platform to promote for peace following years of conflict and civil war in Sudan, said a release.

During the meeting, officials from Save the Dream discussed a number of potential sports projects and areas of mutual interest with the Sudanese delegation — which included officials, coaches and players — as well as how technical assistance can be provided by Save the Dream in the field of sport development and peace-building.

In addition, players and officials from the Darfur Refugee Team learnt about various projects and volunteer programmes currently being conducted around the world by Save the Dream, its overall mission and core values that aim to educate and empower young people through sport, as well as how the global movement plans to continue to expand its work in Qatar and around the world in 2018.

Speaking at the meeting, Massimiliano Montanari, Executive Director — Save the Dream said: 'This meeting was an important opportunity to learn and share experiences about the important role that sport can play in empowering young people, as well as ongoing projects and initiatives being conducted by both organisations.

'At Save the Dream, we are committed to sharing our expertise and providing technical assistance to organisations like the Darfur Refugee Football team, who are playing an active and vital role in using sport as a platform for peace and youth empowerment in Sudan.
