Iraqi PM thanks Kuwait for hosting reconstruction conf.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Jan 9 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi Tuesday thanked the State of Kuwait for hosing a conference on rebuilding Iraq, due on February 12-14.

"The reconstruction conference is a major event, and our brothers in the State of Kuwait agreed to host it and have provided all facilities to hold it, and we are grateful," Abadi told a news conference in Baghdad.

Iraq, he added, received positive responses from European countries, the US, Japan and China in support of the conference.

Abadi said the conference would provide an opportunity for investment, capitals and international expertise to pour into Iraq.

He said conferees would discuss the reconstruction of Iraq as a whole.

Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah said in remarks yesterday the reconstruction conference would be held at a "critical juncture." He said Kuwait's unwavering support for its Gulf neighbor stemmed from the fact that stability in Baghdad was key to ensure security in the region.

He revealed private sector would join efforts to rebuild a nation battered by war, pointing out that the conference will likely come under close scrutiny by the international community. (end) ahh.bs
