Jordan- Awqaf Minister meets grand Brazil mufti

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan. 10 (Petra)-Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat on Wednesday held talks with visiting Grand Brazil Mufti, Mohammed Maghribi.

During the meeting, Arabiat said Jordan exerts "tremendous" efforts to counter terrorist and extremist ideologies, as a part of a holistic national policy.

The Message of Amman launched 2004 under Royal auspices, he added, is a bid aimed to spread the lofty Islamic values and to counter radical ideology.

He highlighted his ministry's key role in convening annual gatherings to elaborate the Message of Amman's core teachings.

Jordan, he affirmed, enjoys an ambience of peaceful co-existence, tolerance, and rejection of extremism, adding Jordan launched several initiatives calling for the mutual respect of diverse points of view.

Mufti Maghribi, for his part, lauded Amman's key role to defend Islam and to showcase its true teachings to the world, at a time terrorist and extremist organizations attempt to tarnish its core image.

Brazil, he added, lives in an inter-religious co-existence based on reciprocal respect regardless of gender, ethnicity, and faith.

He said the Brazilian public opinion welcomes presence of Muslims and denies any attempts to harm the society's diversity.
