(MENAFN) A government forecast announced U.S. crude production to reach a record high in 2018 and is to further boost in 2019.

In its monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) found nationwide output to average 10.27 million barrels per day in 2018 and 10.85 million in 2019, with both years exceeding past record of 9.6 million in 1970.

The EIA's acting administrator John Conti stated "led by U.S. production, particularly the Permian Basin, and now new oil sands projects in Canada, non-OPEC production is forecast to continue growing through the end of 2019, we expect to see growth near 2 million barrels per day in 2018 and 1.3 million barrels per day in 2019."
