Oman- Eighth Mussanah Race Week from January 11

Date:

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Mussanah Sports City is all set to welcome some of the best young international sailors to the eighth edition of the Mussanah Race Week (MRW), when it hosts the regatta from January 11-17.

Organised by Oman Sail since 2011, the regatta has managed to attract a growing number of young sailors from across the world as they look forward to take advantage of the idyllic sailing conditions and the top-level coaching on offer.

This year will witness 91 visiting sailors, including 30 girls, arriving from 20 countries including Angola, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Italy, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Thailand and Turkey.

Omani sailors, mainly from the Omantel Youth Sailing Programme, will be also competing and hoping to repeat last year's success when they won four gold.

French star Sidney Gavignet will be conducting coaching workshop sessions during the week.

'We are looking forward to welcoming young sailors from around the world. I am sure it will be another exciting and rewarding Mussanah Race Week,' said Mohsin al Busaidi, manager of the youth programme.

Racing will be held in Optimist, Techno 293 and Laser Radial and 4.7 classes, with 12 races scheduled for each class. The largest single class is the Optimist category with 54 overseas sailors in fray.

Mussanah has been the venue for several international sailing events including the 2013 Laser World Championship and 2015 Laser Radial World Championship.
