(MENAFN- The Conversation) Prof Christi van der Westhuizen (Ph.D.) is an associate of the Democracy Works Foundation. She is the author of 'Sitting Pretty: White Afrikaans Women in Postapartheid South Africa' (forthcoming, 2017), 'White Power & the Rise and Fall of the National Party' (2007), 'Working Democracy: Perspectives on South Africa's Parliament at 20 Years' (2014) and several articles and book chapters in both academic and popular media. She is the editor of 'Gender Instruments in Africa: Critical Perspectives, Future Strategies' (2005).
After holding research associateships with the universities of Cape Town, Free State and KwaZulu Natal, she is now working as associate professor at the University of Pretoria.
She started her working life as a journalist at the anti-apartheid newspaper 'Vrye Weekblad' and is a regular commentator in the South African and international media.
