Qatar- Student arrested for assault of public school officials

Doha: Officials of a public school for boys were beaten-up by a student and his family member on Sunday.
This shocking incident was reported by the Ministry of Education on Twitter and a ministry official condemned the incident and said that necessary measures are taken to against the aggressors after their arrest.

The director of the Omar bin al-Khattab Secondary School for Boys Hassan Ajran Al-Buainain and another official was attacked on Sunday morning by a student and a family member.

'The Ministry of Education and Higher Education deplores this behaviour which has nothing to do with the ethics of our students, and the authorities have initiated necessary measures against the aggressors after their arrest, the ministry tweeted

'HE Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahid Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and the ministry officials are following the incident with the competent authorities and also reassured the health status of the victims, who were transferred to HMC for treatment and health services, the ministry said further.

Khalifa Saad Al Derham, Director of the Public Schools Department at the Ministry of Education, confirmed that the ministry has taken necessary measures in cooperation with competent authorities and that they do not accept any behaviour that leads to physical or psychological damage to anyone connected to the education system.

He added that the director of the school was carrying out his duties as an invigilator and was applying ministry's regulations in dealing with violations during exams.

The Director of the Schools Department said that the minister has directed the competent authorities in the ministry, represented by schools and legal affairs departments, to investigate and follow up on the matter. A committee of the Ministry of Education was also established to make sure there is no impact on conducting examinations, whether in that school or other nearby schools.

He pointed out that this behaviour is rare and an aberration as in Qatari society everyone respects and appreciates the educational process and those who provide it.
