A grand opening ceremony of Cricket Tournament 2018, organised by OIA (One India Association), affiliated to ICC under the aegis of Indian Embassy (Qatar) at Al Jaber Ground, Mesaieed took place on Friday, January 5. Eight different teams namely OIA UP, QKR of Bengal, IABJ, OIA Kerala, Orbital Strikers Blue, Mitra Mandal of Maharastra, OIA Tamil Nadu and Orbital knights Red had participated.
The inaugural match was played between Bengal and UP teams. The toss was won by Bengal team and they elected to field first. In the allotted 12 overs, UP team managed to score 123 runs by losing 6 wickets, thus giving the target of 124 runs to QKR of Bengal. The Bengal team managed to score 68 runs by losing 5 wickets, thus UP team won the match by 55 runs. The man of the match was awarded to Musharraf G Khan for his bowling.
In another match between OIA Tamil Naduand Mitra Mandal of Maharastra. The toss was won by Maharastra and they elected to bat first. In the allots 10 overs, MM managed to score 90 runs at the loss of 5 wickets and in response, Tamil Nadu team managed to score 59 runs, in return losing the match by 31 runs. The man of the match was awarded to Umesh Sonar of MM for his extraordinary all round performance.
In the 3rd match of the tournament Orbital Strikers Blue defeated Orbital Knights Red by 8 wickets. Manu Raj was adjudged as man of the match for his bowling performance. Ziauddin Ahmad, Sports Secretary of OIA applauded the players for their performances and the Certificates of appreciation were handed over by Dilip Kutty and Lutfullah of OIA.
