Indian Club Gaveliers, Qatar recently celebrated its first anniversary with a grand function in Doha. Established in December 2016, after a successful Youth Leadership Program, Indian Club Gaveliers is affiliated with Toastmasters International under its Gavel Clubs Program for youngsters aged 12-18.
The gavel club is ably supported by Indian Club Toastmasters, one of the leading clubs in Qatar, with senior toastmasters Anita Samanta, Surya Narayanan, Ravi Shankar and Alarmel Mangaias coordinators.
The gavel club with more than 40 members meets on first and third Saturdays at Indian Club, Thumama.
The main objective of the recently held event was to showcase to the gaveliers' parents, the communication and leadership skills their children have acquired over the last one year.
The youngsters organised and conducted the entire program by themselves, under the guidance of their mentors.
The first half of the milestone event was a formal gavel club meeting, with members presenting a variety of humorous and inspirational speeches, and receiving constructive evaluations from their fellow members.
In the Table Topics segment, parents of some of the gaveliers were challenged to exhibit their impromptu speaking skills.
Harini Balamurugan was voted as the best speaker and Hazah Khan as the best evaluator, while parent Trinanjan Gupta got the best table topics speaker award.
Upholding the toastmasters tradition, a toast was raised to mark the occasion, in honour of Ralph C Smedley, the visionary founder of the toastmasters movement and as an expression of gratitude to all those supporting the gavel club and its members.
