Siege of opposition broken by Syria's army

(MENAFN) The Syrian Arab Army broke the siege of an army base surrounded by opposition forces on East Damascus, according to state television and a war monitor.

Army elite forces, supported by Russian jets, threw an offensive to break the siege and free at least 200 troops who were believed to be trapped within its sprawling, heavily protected grounds.

Rebels, who are assumed to be from the Islamist Ahrar al Sham faction, imposed their control over parts of the Military Vehicles Administration base in the Eastern Ghouta town of Harasta.
