Oman Cricket: Skipper Sameer leads Oman to facile win
(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Mohammed Sameer played a skipper's knock to lead Oman to a facile ten-wicket victory over Maldives in their opening Pool B match of the Asian cricket Council (ACC) U16 Western Region Tournament, played in Sharjah, UAE, on Sunday.
Coached by Syed Tariq Hussain, Oman next plays hosts UAE on Monday in the seven-nation tournament.
Chasing a paltry total of 105 to win, Oman raced to the target in 14 overs, thanks to an unbroken opening partnership of 106 between Sameer (61) and Rushil Dadwal (34).
Earlier, Sameer excelled with ball as he claimed four wickets for 11 runs as Oman restricted Maldives to 104 for eight in 35 overs. Adeel Abbas bagged two for 20.
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Bahrain comprise Pool A with top two teams advancing to the semis.
The final will be played on January 13.
Brief scores: Maldives 104-8 in 35 overs (Mohammed Ahusan 17; Sameer 4-11, Abbas 2-20, Prathamesh Santhosh 1-8) lost to Oman 106 for no loss in 14 overs (Sameer 61, Dadwal 34).
