Oman- OFA's efforts have reaped the fruits: Sayyid Shihab


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As Oman continues to rejoice over the national football team's second Gulf Cup title win in Kuwait, H H Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq al Said, Advisor to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, lauded the hard work and planning put up by the Oman Football Association (OFA).

In his remarks to Muscat Daily on Sunday, Sayyid Shihab, who is also the chairman of Seeb Club, one of the most successful clubs in the sultanate, said, 'I am delighted on the title win of Oman at the 23rd Gulf Cup in Kuwait on Friday.

'The national team has reaped the fruits of the great efforts made by OFA under the leadership on Sheikh Salim al Wahaibi.

'Since his take over as the OFA chairman in October 2016, Sheikh Salim and his team have put in a lot of hard work to ensure the success of the national team.

'Along with the OFA's efforts, the title win is a result of the good work of the coaching staff and the excellent performance of the players.'

Sayyid Shihab said that the technical excellence achieved by Oman in the Gulf Cup, which witnessed the participation of all the eight teams assumes great importance as our players have emerged as regional heroes.

'The title win underlines our team's all-round dominance in the tournament and the trophy has returned to Oman after a gap of eight years.

'I would like to also thank the thousands of Omani fans who have strongly supported the national team during the Gulf Cup, be it in Oman or by flying to Kuwait to cheer them. It is a victory for all of us.'

Warm welcome at different cities

Meanwhile, the Oman football team heroes were accorded a rousing welcome at their respective homes in different parts of the sultanate.

Following the public reception at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Saturday, players reached their respective homes on Saturday night. Fans and family members came out in large numbers in respective cities to welcome their heroes in Sohar, Suwaiq, Saham,

Mussanah, Sur and Salalah.Young winger Jameel al Yahmadi was given a warmreception at his home in Barka on Saturday night as he had to leave for China on Sunday morning to join the national team that will compete in the AFC U23 meet, starting on Tuesday.

Striker Khalid al Hajri was taken around the streets ofMusannah on Saturday night while Suwaiq hosted goalkeeper Faiz al Rusheidi and midfielder Harib al Saadi on Sunday. Sohar gave a cheerful welcome to forward Abdulaziz al Miqbali, defenders Ali al Busaidi and Mohammed al Mussalami.

Ahmed Mubarak 'Kanu', Raed Ibrahim Saleh, Said al Ruzaiqi 'Shalhoub' and Saad Suhail were welcomed in Sur and Fahmi Said and Nadir Awadh flew down to Salalah. Midfielder Mohsin Jawhar was felicitated in Saham.
