DOHA: FC Bayern Munich (FCB) yesterday successfully finished its eighth annual winter training camp held at Aspire Zone. The winter camp has become a key part of the teams training preparations ahead of restarting the football season.
The team concluded their final training session yesterday and flew back to Germany on the same day.
To mark the success of the training camp with Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), Mohammed bin Fahad Al Thani, AZFs External Affairs Representative, presented a commemorative shield to Hasan Salihamidzic, FC Bayern Munich Sporting Director.
Commenting on the occasion, Hasan Salihamidzic, Sporting Director for FC Bayern Munich and a hugely popular figure at the club, said: 'Our training camp at Aspire Zone Foundation clearly achieved its objectives, and the players are refreshed and ready to resume playing in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
He added: 'We held morning and evening training sessions which has prepared us well to face Leverkusen on Friday in the Bundesliga, and SG Sonnenhof Gro next Tuesday in a friendly. Were also looking forward to our match against Turkish side Besikta J K in the Champions League in February. Salihamidzic summed up the teams experience at AZF saying: 'The weather was ideal here, with temperatures around 25 C. Aspire Zone has great facilities and the pitches are world-class.
Following a match against Qatari Club Al-Ahli SC, Dutch right winger Arjen Robben praised the training camp at Aspire Zone Foundation saying that the facilities and the atmosphere helped the team to focus. 'Its going to be interesting. We are looking forward to our upcoming matches, as we have some big games coming.
Meanwhile in an interview with local and international Spanish speaking media, FCBs left back Juan Bernat said: 'We are totally satisfied with our winter training camp in Doha.
The camp has become a key event in our annual calendar and AZFs facilities are really impressive. He added: 'Our goal is to clinch as many titles as possible this season with our new coach Jupp Heynckes. Hes brought real focus to the team. Commenting on his chances of being picked for Spains national team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia , the 24 year-old-player, who won the European champion with Spains under-19 team in 2012, said: 'I still believe I have a good chance and Im very much holding on to my dream of playing for my country.
My main focus currently is my performance with my club and giving my all. Meanwhile in an interview with local and international French speaking media, Kingsley Coman, who plays up front for the French national team said: 'I have had several training camps at Aspire with both FC Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain.
My first visit to Aspire was several years ago when I played for Paris Saint-Germain in the U-17 Al Kass International Cup tournament. And Ive been back since with Bayern several times. I'm getting used to the atmosphere here, and AZFs facilities are really fantastic.
FC Bayern Munichs winter training camp is further proof of how AZF and its affiliated organisations are perfectly placed to provide an integrated set of world-class sporting and medical services available to players all in one place. These are a key contributor to AZFs goal of becoming the reference in sports excellence worldwide by 2020.
In addition to FC Bayern Munich, Aspire Zones world-class facilities and pitches have attracted a number of other leading teams for training camps including Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, FC Schalke 04 in addition to Aspire-owned Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa and KAS Eupen, and the Tunisian team who are currently training in AZF.
