(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) It was one of the items on his bucket list - to lead a team in the Gulf Cup. And the Dutchman, Pim Verbeek, has, in fact, done one better by leading the Omani team to title triumph.
Speaking soon after the victory, Verbeek said, 'The win is fantastic, of course, as I wanted to lead a team in Gulf Cup. I didn't expect to be successful when we started the campaign. But this title is fantastic for Oman football, for my players and for the fans.
'Both the teams were well-balanced and we knew that the team that scored first would win. My goalkeeper [Faiz al Rusheidi] did very well to stop the penalty in regulation time.'
The coach also expressed his appreciation for the UAE side. 'They played 120 minutes only couple of days ago [won against Iraq on penalties in semifinal]. Winning
the penalty is fantastic but to lose on the penalties is very bad. I feel for them.'
