Saudi Arabia to help offset VAT impact and highlight economic struggle


(MENAFN) Billions are planned to be spent by Saudi authorities in purpose of aiding citizens to offset the VAT effect as well as in gasoline and utility prices increase.

The decision is to make it possible for public discontent to be relieved while also putting emphasize on Saudi Arabia's effort to overhaul its economy.

King Salman had ordered a recovery of a yearly raise in payment for Saudi civil servants, suspended as part of an effort to rein in a heavy public-sector salary bill.

The King had ordered a bonus of $1,333 dedicated for soldiers serving, also an additional $267 monthly was awarded for Saudis who work for the state a "cost of living" allowance for a year. Moreover, the government is to pay part of the newly implemented VAT.
