Qatar- Lebretha Center plans Heritage Academy

Doha: Lebretha Heritage Center yesterday announced that it has plan to launch a Heritage Academy for young people below 15 years, to provide them with awareness of cultural heritage related to life of Qatari society before the oil and gas era.

The step aims to promote national identity and revive the old heritage of all kinds.

The launch of the new center will take place after the inauguration of the new headquarter in the Al Shamal in Al Dakhira city in February, said Ali Lahadan Al Mohannadi, Director of Lebretha Center of Heritage. The new building includes the heritage academy for marine and land heritage. The new building will have a production center for animals, wild and marine plants, and endangered birds, he added.

Al Mohannadi pointed out in his speech at the closing ceremony held yesterday at the Al Dakhira Youth Center for honouring participants of the 5th Lebretha Heritage Festival: 'Since its inception, the Center has been a pioneer in preserving the Qatari heritage through its activities. The growing interest in heritage among Qatar's youth can be seen in their interest to join all efforts and contribute to the promotion of this heritage and its role in the future.

The State pays all attention to the heritage through its various institutions, whether from the Private Engineering Office or the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums or the Cultural Foundation or the Al Ghannas Society, he added.

He stressed that with the opening of the new headquarters, the Lebretha Center will provide continuous activities and courses in heritage organising festivals in all kinds of heritage, noting that the new building contains a world-class racecourse for Saluki, and will also be used for the competitions of the Pony, equestrian competitions, traditional camel and popular games and Halal competition.

The Director of Lebretha Heritage Center extended his thanks to the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani for sponsoring the festival and his presence in some of its round, showing the state's keenness on this heritage.

He also thanked all parties and partners who supported the festival, Media and members of the Organising Committee who have continued their efforts to make the fifth edition of the festival a remarkable level, commending the efforts of the centers that participated in the festival.

The ceremony witnessed honouring the participants and supporters. The awards were also given to the participants in the festival in the various stages of the competitions, including falcon, equestrian competitions and traditional activities competitions. The first winner of each category of falcon competitions (except for competitions of promising falconer) was awarded car.

The winner of second place was awarded a prize of QR40,000 and the winner of third place was awarded a prize of QR30,000, while the fourth and fifth place winners received QR10,000.

The festival management also awarded a car for the first place in the equestrian competitions and the Arab Saluki was also given awards.
