Kuwait's top lawmaker calls on injured fans

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly (parliament) Marzouq Al-Ghanem on Saturday visited Omani football fans who were wounded in a stampede after a UAE-Omani game at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium.

Following the final of the Arabian Gulf Cup match, in which Oman beat UAE and won its second cup, Omani fans were caught in a rush due to a glass barrier collapse at the packed stadium on Friday evening.

Some Omani fans were injured in the accident, and were immediately taken to three nearby hospitals.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the Organizing Committee Anas Al-Saleh said in an earlier statement that the wounded Omani fans were fine.

Oman on Friday beat the UAE in a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 draw, securing its second Arabian Gulf cup. (end) fnk.amh.mt
