Legendary tennis coach Nick Bollettieri praises Qatar Open

Doha:Legendary American tennis coach Nick Bollettieri praised the great progress of Qatar Open, saying he was very impressed with the sports facilities of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, which is currently hosting the tournament with a large number of top-ranked players.

The American coach participated in the development of many leading players, including Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Monica Seles, and Mary Pierce. He has also worked with Maria Sharapova and the sisters Williams.

Bollettieri said in a press conference that the he visited Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex 15 years ago, adding that during his current visit to Qatar, he was impressed with the rapid development of h Qatari Tennis in terms of facilities as well as the programmes and plans of developing players.

He praised the special atmosphere of the Qatar ExxonMobil and the daily events held at the Khalifa Complex, stressing that this tournament has a great place in the world tennis map, especially that it was able to attract the world's top stars to participate.

He went on saying that he had listened to the officials of the Qatar Tennis Federation who reviewed the programs and plans implemented by the Federation to develop the national teams, especially with regard to the children center, and discussed the prospects of cooperation between Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) and the famous tennis academy owned by Bollettieri in the United States.

For his part, Khalid Al Khulaifi, Board Member of QTF and the Chairman of the National Teams Committee said that the visit of the tennis legend to Qatar ExxonMobil Open is a great honor and an addition to it, as he has made many achievements to the game and contributed to making leading stars in the game.

On the possibility of cooperation between QTF and the Academy owned by Bollettieri, Al Khulaifi said ""We have had meetings with Mr. Nick Bollettieri, during which he was briefed on QTF's vision for developing national teams and exchanged views on many issues related to how Qatari players are developed and brought to the level of professionalism."

"We can say that the meeting was productive and could result in future cooperation," he said.
