Arab coalition intercepts Houthi's ballistic missile at Najran
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- The Saudi-led Arab Coalition Forces for Supporting the Legitimacy in Yemen on Friday intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemeni territory at the Saudi city of Najran, the coalition's spokesman said.
The missile was deliberately launched toward Najran, mainly to target civilian areas and population, but it was intercepted and destroyed by the coalition's air defense force, Col. Turki Al-Malki said in a press statement.
No casualties were reported in the incident, but private properties were affected, he added.
The launching of the ballistic missile by Iranian-backed Houthi militias proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting Houthi militias in clear defiance of UN Resolution 2216 and Resolution 2231, he noted.
The coalition's spokesman also condemned the firing of ballistic missiles at densely populated cities and villages as a breach of international humanitarian law.
In this context, Al-Maliki called anew the international community to take more effective moves to put an end to Iranian violations of the continued smuggling and transfer of ballistic missiles and weapons to terrorist groups and outlaws. (end) nh.mt
