Qatar's PPI increased 6.1% in November

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the industrial sector for November 2017 increased by 6.1 percent to 60.8 points compared to the previous month and rose by 21.4 percent (y-o-y) compared to the corresponding month of the previous year 2016.

The Index data, released yesterday by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, consists of three components of three main sectors including mining, 72.7 percent of the general index, manufacturing, 26.8 percent, and electricity and water, 0.5 percent.

The mining index showed a 6.9 percent rise compared to the previous month as a result of the increase of the prices of the group of crude oil and natural gas by 6.9 percent. The index rose by 20.8 percent compared to November 2016.

The manufacturing sector index rose by 4.9 percent from the previous month (October 2017), as a result of the rise in six groups, and the decline in four groups, with the stability of one group unchanged, with a group of rubber and plastic products, rose by 7.5 percent, Petroleum refining by 6.9 percent, dairy group by 5.1 percent, followed by basic chemicals group by 3.0 percent, beverage group by 1.6 percent, and basic metals group by 0.6 percent.

The decrease in the juice group was 8.3 percent, the cement and other non-metallic products group by 3.3 percent, followed by paper and its products group by 2.9 percent, the group of other chemical products and the fiber by 2.5 percent, while the group of grain products and other products did not change in price compared to the previous month.

On the other hand, in the same sector, an annualised increase of 22.8 percent was recorded in comparison to the corresponding month of the previous year (November 2016) due to the increase of 31.1 percent in the basic metals group, followed by the petroleum products group by 27.7 percent, Chemical products by 14.9 percent, dairy products by 5.7 percent, other chemicals and fiber products by 4.6 percent, plastics and rubber products by 2.7 percent and grain products and other products by 1.5 percent.

Cement and other non-metallic products declined by 7.3 percent, followed by juices by 6.3 percent, paper products by 5.0 percent and beverages by 1.5 percent.

The electricity and water sector recorded a decline of 2.7 percent compared to the previous month, due to decline in the water group by 11.5 percent and the rise in the electricity group by 5.3 percent.

Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the index of this sector increased by 5.9 percent as a result of the rise in the electricity group by 8.4 percent and the water group by 2.7 percent.
