Qatar- Mahaseel Festival attracts shoppers to local produce

The Cultural Foundation of Katara yesterday concluded the activities of the second edition of Mahaseel Festival, but thesouq will continue on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays of every week until the end of March 2018.

The festival, which was launched on December 23 at the southern area of the cultural village foundation Katara, was attended by a number of distinguished ambassadors who expressed their admiration for the festival as a distinctive marketing platform for the local Qatari products, praising the quality and diversity of the products as well as the various activities and educational activities. The festival also witnessed intensive visits of a number of independent and private school students as well as a diverse audience.

In this context, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Cultural Village Foundation Katara, stressed the aims of Katara at spreading a culture of community-based on enhancing confidence in the local products for their high quality of health and safety. He pointed out what distinguishes Mahaseel and that it did not provide products purely as commercial but in the form of recreational and educational space distinctive for the different family members thanks to the content of the competitions and activities and various events.

Saying that Katara has sought through the Mahaseel festival to achieve sustainability in the agricultural sector and provide self-sufficiency and support food security in the country by providing all national agricultural crops of vegetables and fruits, fresh, honey, eggs, poultry, birds, dairy products, cheese, natural juices. In addition to natural flowers including roses. He thanked the Ministry of Municipalities and the Environment for its efforts in cooperation with Katara.

He also thanked all the owners of the farms and companies who participated for the second year in a row in Mahaseel festival and said that their participation confirms confidence in the importance of Katara's role in introducing local products at Mahaseel as a form of entertainment and education. The festival has had over 22 farms and 6 national companies displaying dairy products, juices, meat, chicken, and birds. All national crops were presented with vegetables, fresh fruit, honey, eggs, poultry, birds, dairy products, cheese and natural juices.

The festival also had workshops and lectures on agriculture, beekeeping, and healthy nutrition, which included how to store vegetables and fruits, the cultivation of home gardens, various competitions, and workshops for children. It is characterised by the wide participation of the Qatari families, through the allocation of a market for popular food, which contributes to the encouragement and support of local production, where the participating suites offered productive families, many of the traditional food and sweets.

Mahaseel also hosted many local companies specialising in the production of dates, milk, and its derivatives and natural juices. Among these being the Arab Qatari Dairy Company (Ghadir), Dandy Dairy Company of Qatar, Al Rawda Dairy Company and Baladna Company.

The Qatari dates are popular among the shoppers at the Mahaseel festival due to their high quality and variety. The Qatari date palms have been very popular with the visitors that are from the famous palm groves in the oasis of Qatar, characterised by their sweet taste and varieties like water, pastry, harvested, salvation, saffron. The Qatari company for the production of poultry (oasis) and the poultry farm and the quail (Al-Samman) have been producing high-quality products.

The two companies have many varieties of fresh chicken and quail, cleaned daily, packaged and sourced directly from the farm. Flower shops and ornamental plants received great attention from visitors at the festival.

The sales outlets of these were bright colours and the variety of flowers displayed evoke a sight of delight and pleasure and also have an aesthetic and psychological impact. These shops have more than 26 kinds of flowers.

As part of its quest to integrate the festival's message, Katara organised a number of workshops for children where they made clay vegetables and fruits, and did colouring and painting.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Environment also participated in two cultural workshops, the first on agriculture and the production of vegetables in covered plastic houses that are heated and protected from external weather and agricultural pests. In addition, there is a section for clay and fungus stages and beekeeping. Visitors are also enjoying the competitions organised daily which have added to the fun and entertainment atmosphere.

The visitors have been impressed by the farm produce and other products at the festival which are available at very competitive prices and the fun atmosphere which makes the shopping at Mahaseel a real pleasure for the whole family, where the festival provides various ways of hospitality and entertainment.
