(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar has taken a number of progressive steps to strengthen the country over the last few months, Doha resident Syed Wajih Kazmi told Qatar Urdu Radio's live show Haqeeqat yesterday.
'Qatar's Cabinet very recently approved a draft law that would allow foreigners to own real estate. This is a major step forward for the business and economy, Kazmi, a journalist by profession, said.
He added that the ownership of real estate by non-Qataris was among the many positive initiatives taken by Qatar since the beginning of the blockade on June 5.
'In Qatar's 2018 budget plan there is an increase in overall spending on construction projects, healthcare and education among other sectors. This shows you that the economy has strengthened since the beginning of siege and the government expects it to grow even stronger in the coming year.
As per the 2018 budget plan, an estimated QR29bn worth of new projects are expected to be signed next year.
Spending is expected at a total of QR203.2bn, up 2.4% from the budget plan for 2017.
Haqeeqat is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corp Urdu Radio. The show, hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman, aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar.
