Qatar- Premium quality local vegetables at Lulu Hypermarket from today
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by Agricultural Affairs Department will launch today its ongoing programme for marketing premium quality Qatari vegetables at another major commercial outlet, Lulu Hypermarket.
The programme is already running at two big retailers — Al Meera and Carrefour — providing farm-fresh premium quality locally produce vegetables at reasonable prices to customers.
The programme aims at providing platforms to local farmers to market their produce directly to shopping complexes without any broker that bring them more yields and encourages them to make more investments in agricultural sector.
Within the marketing programme, the Agricultural Affairs Department has made some specifications for marketing premium agricultural produce at shopping complexes.
The farms participating in the programme are complying specifications required in a big way, said the Ministry in a statement. The two retailers running the programme are showcasing high quality Qatari vegetables indicating great success of the prograame. The programme also helps improve the marketing of local produced vegetables and reduce its wastage.
The programme attracted big number of local farmers. The participants increased to 69 farms in December 2017 from eight farms at the beginning of the programme in December 2016. Many new farms are interested in participating in the programme and their numbers are expected to increase remarkably during coming period.
So far, more than 867 tonnes of Qatari premium quality vegetables have been sold and the highest sale about 200 tonnes was recorded during the current month, said the release.
