Fog causes traffic snarls in parts of Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Residents of parts of Muscat and Batinah woke up to a blanket of fog on Monday, with visibility dropping to less than 100m at many places. The ROP urged motorists to drive slow and follow lane rules to avoid accidents. 'We advise people to be cautious and avoid switching lanes randomly. Use fog lights and maintain adequate distance between vehicles,' an ROP official said.

Maulid al Dhawi, while driving to Seeb for work in the morning said the fog caused huge traffic snarls. 'I felt like I was in another world. We were forced to slow down while driving and this resulted in huge traffic jam,' he said.

A resident of Al Khoudh, Hamad Sultan decided to stay home and be safe. 'I decided to be home when I saw the thick fog. I knew there would be chaos on the road and so enjoyed the view from my home,' he said.

On Tuesday, Muscat, Musandam, North and South Batinah, North and South Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Dhofar and desert areas of Dhahirah are expected to see fog patches. Horizontal visibility in these areas is also likely to be less than 1,000m, the Met office has said.

Meanwhile, cold spell in Oman continues with temperatures dropping to around 15°C in many parts of Oman. Temperatures in Muscat and Seeb hovered between 17°C and 27°C on Monday.
