'African nations key to Qatar's foreign policy'

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar has always maintained cordial relations with African countries, popular radio host Obaid Tahir told Qatar Urdu Radio's live show Haqeeqat yesterday. Speaking about His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's six-nation tour of West Africa, Tahir said that African countries were an important part of Qatar's foreign policy. 'Qatar has signed agreements with many West African countries in the last week. But these countries have been an important part of Qatar's foreign policy.
He explained Qatar has been providing humanitarian and financial assistance to many countries in West Africa for many years. Earlier last week, Qatar announced that it will establish a cancer centre in Burkina Faso.
Tahir also said that despite the siege imposed on Qatar by the neighbouring countries of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, Qatar has continued making strategic partners and ensured that it strengthens diplomatic ties with the rest of the world. 'The reality is that the blockading countries have lost a big chunk of the revenues they generated by doing business in Qatar. While they've lost Qatar's market, there are many other countries who are happily investing here right now, he added.
Haqeeqat is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corp Urdu Radio. The show, hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman, aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar.
