Qatar Chess Association announced that the national team of men and women could not participate in the Speed Chess Championship, which will be hosted by the Saudi in Riyadh from tomorrow.

The Association said that the inability to participate in the Speed Chess Championship came after the Organising Committee required the players not to raise the flag of Qatar during the competitions, which is a blatant injustice against our players and a violation of all international laws and sports.

The Association expressed its regret for this matter, which is far from all the norms of sport, stressing at the same time the right to take all legal procedures in this regard.

The Secretary-General of the Qatar Chess Association, Mohammed Al Medaihki expressed his deep regret at the involvement of politics in sports, considering that this is contrary to all regulations and international and sports laws that organise competitions in various tournaments.

Al Medaihki said that the siege countries are doing their best to obliterate the Qatari sport through miserable and failed attempts, noting to the exclusion of Qatari athletes from participating in international tournaments, including the Speed Chess Championship.

He added that Qatari players rejected the demand and they were denied visa to enter Saudi Arabia. The championship was held for the first time in Doha last year.
