Israel killed 12 Palestinians, injured 666 others since Trump's decision

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GAZA, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- Twelve Palestinians have been killed and 666 others wounded since the outbreak of protests in occupied Palestinians territories against a recent US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The wounded included 487 men, 164 children and 15 women, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a press release.

Palestinian medics came under direct firing by Israeli occupying forces during protests, it added.

US President Donald Trump had recognized in a much-anticipated announcement Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and decided to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The US president's decision has sparked wide-scale condemnations and rejection at Arab, Islamic and international levels.

The UN General Assembly had recently adopted by an overwhelming majority a resolution rejecting the US decision on Jerusalem and demanding all countries to comply with UN Security Council resolutions regarding the status of Jerusalem.

The non-abiding resolution was adopted at an emergency meeting Thursday by a recorded vote of 128 in favor to nine against, with 35 abstentions. (end) wab.mt
