Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company (QIMC), one of the leading small and medium industrial groups in the country, is working to ramp up output to meet the fast growing demands, said a top official of the group.

Speaking to The Peninsula, Abdul Rahman Al Ansari (pictured), CEO of QIMC said that his company has recently won big contracts in the UK to export aluminium products to three world-class stadiums being developed in the West European nation.

'We won contract for three state-of-the-art stadiums in the UK to supply aluminium products. The aluminium will be sourced from Qatalum (Qatar's leading aluminium producer), pressed and fabricated at our facilities such as Alutec and final products to be dispatched to the UK, he said.

Alutec is the largest façade engineering, contracting and manufacturing company in Qatar, and one among the top three in the Middle East North African region. With nearly 20 operational industrial establishments through subsidiaries and joint ventures, QIMC has presence in all the industrial cities of Qatar having business interests in a wide range of sectors.

Some of the core businesses of the company include industries related to petrochemicals, chemicals, food, paper, plastic, paving stones, gypsum and other building materials.

'We own 20 factories in Qatar and all of them are working in full capacity. In fact we are increasing capacities of some of our factories to double the scale of production, said Al Ansari.

Al Ansari said that QIMC subsidiaries and joint venture companies are exporting products, such as glass fibre reinforced plastics (GRP) pipes and other items to Morocco, Tunisia, Singapore, Iraq, Palestine and many other countries.

'Our efficiency level is very high. We at QIMC always looking for expanding production capacities for quality products. As we increase scale of production, per unit cost of production comes down making our products more price competitive, QIMC has also started making several important steel products such as rail which Qatar used to import from Belgium and other countries.

'We are not only self-reliant for many items but also exporting to Canada and some European countries that have well established industries for these products, he added.

QIMC is expanding manufacturing capacities, and some of them are being doubled. For instance, anodising and powder coating facilities will be doubled soon.

'We are inaugurating one press in December-end, and second one in January 2018.

QIMC is also exploring investment opportunities in several other countries. On the impact of the ongoing blockade on QIMC's business operations, he said: 'We have settled out of it (siege) without any harm. We have arranged ourselves, and productions at all our facilities are going on smoothly.

QIMC used to source a lot of raw materials and goods from neighbouring countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, but now the company has started sourcing those items from elsewhere.

'Since we were committed to our brotherly countries, we did not explore other markets… But now we are getting better quality products at more attractive prices, noted Al Ansari.

He also noted that Qatar under the wise leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has witnessed a significant change in its growth and development strategy.

'We are no longer the same Qatar that we used be before the imposition of the unjust blockade. We always learn out of the difficult way, and transform challenges into opportunities.
