Qatar- Workshop on eye health for professionals in schools held
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) organized a workshop for healthcare professionals working at schools and discussed eye diseases and disorders. The two-day workshop ‘Eye Health Workshop for Students' was held in collaboration with Primary Health Care Corporation and Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Some 125 nurses and health professionals working at independent, private and community schools across the country attended it. Dr Kholoud Al-Mutawa head of noncommunicable disease stressed the importance of promoting eye health among school students as visual acuity is mandatory for all school students in Qatar.
'When we work together to detect causes of low vision among students, we will definitely reduce the prevalence of low vision within children and protect this important age group from vision disorders, she added. Dr Shadi Al-Ashwal, ophthalmologist, spoke about common eye diseases and eye trauma, how to deal and refer such cases.
The workshop has been accredited by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners QCHP and each participant will get CPD.
Further, MOPH's Blindness Prevention Program, has performed many previous training workshops.
