Kuwait- Direct hires of domestics eyed

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: Some citizens and expatriates plan to bring domestic workers directly from the Philippines and Sri Lanka to cope with the high price of hiring maids through the Al-Durra Company and other local labor recruiting offices, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Some citizens and residents say the direct contract will save them 50 percent of the local market price. They added the price of bringing domestic workers through the company and other offices range between KD 990 and KD 1,350.

They added, they have begun recruiting domestic workers through personal efforts instead of signing contracts with the offices and companies for prices between KD 450 and KD 530.

They pointed out, it is only necessary to know the maid and a copy of her passport. They added the Consumer Protection Department is now required to activate its recent decisions and directives on domestic labor and force local offices and Al-Durra Company to reduce the cost and provide guarantees that the domestic helpers will not escape because of which the employers lose a lot of money.
