Robin Singh's new cricket initiative in Dubai


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Former Indian cricketer Robin Singh recently launched a pioneering initiative in Dubai to identify, encourage and promote young, talented cricketers from UAE schools and groom them for a role on the international stage, a press release said.

Singh's Dubai-based RS Sports Academy will organise the Aster Elite Schools League, which will feature teams from leading schools across the region.

The league-cum-knockout tournament in the T20 format, which will be held in February 2018, was launched at Hotel Pullman.

Prominent among the star cricketers who attended the event included established and budding West Indies cricketers such as Darren Sammy, Nicolas Pooran, Chadwick Walton, and England ODI captain Eoin Morgan. The Aster Elite School League will provide an opportunity to young students to participate in competitive cricket under realistic conditions.

Schools across the UAE have been invited to send their best players to participate in the tournament, the semifinals and finals of which will be held under lights - a novel experience for local youngsters.

Talented youngsters will be selected for further training and groomed for competition in foreign leagues to gain greater experience. The league is being sponsored by Aster, Transworld Group and supported by Citizen Watches.

Using advanced video analysis and technical performance parameters, the company will also assist in selecting students for further high performance programme by RS Sports Academy.

These students will be able to learn from top International coaches from RS Sports Academy, and will have opportunities to interact and play with international players in different leagues and tournaments across the globe. These students would be trained for the next level of cricket.
