Egyptian court convicts 26 suspects for burning police station
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Dec 23 (KUNA) -- Egypt's Giza Criminal Court on Saturday sentenced 26 suspects for 5-10 years behind bars, mainly for setting a police station on fire in 2014.
Thirteen suspects were sentenced to 10-year imprisonment, and the rest to five years.
According to the indictment, the 26 were charged with burning a police station, in a way that exposed policemen, and civilians to danger. Other charges included violence, thuggery, showing off power, damaging public property, disrupting public order, and holding unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Meanwhile, the Cairo Criminal Court today convicted a suspect for ten-year rigorous imprisonment at the end of the retrial of Egypt's attorney general Hisham Barakat who was assassinated in June 2015.
Earlier 28 suspects were sentenced to death in Barakat's case. (end) asm.msa
