Kuwait, Vice-President Qatari and Asian Football Association Saud Al Mohannadi (pictured) on Thursday expressed his confidence in Kuwait's capabilities of hosting the Gulf Cup 23, adding that the competition will be a great success.
He said that there were two main reasons to be happy, the first is that FIFA has lifted the ban off of Kuwait and the second is that the country will host the Gulf Cup 23.
He added that Qatar appreciates the role played by the Kuwaiti federation in hosting the sporting event, given its significance for the people of the GCC.
Al Mohannadi said that history shows that team spirit plays a much bigger role than technical and tactical elements in determining the winners of the competition.
Despite that, the Qatari official said he still expects the tactical and technical levels to be very high in this year's competition.
'This due to a number of reasons, the first of which was that all national teams began preparing for the competition in August. I expect new stars to emerge from this year's tournament as well, especially that fitness levels will be high as the players are in the mid-season rather than at the end of season when the physical and mental fatigue have taken their toll, Al Mohannadi said.
He also said that the Qatar team now has the right mix of young talents and experience stars who participated in the competition before. He expressed his hope that the team does well, especially that the competition will be a good preparation for the Asia competition for Olympic teams that will take place in China and Asia Cup 2019 which will take place in the UAE.
Al Mohannadi also noted that the Qatari team prepared well for the competition and will make a good account of themselves in it.
